Quantities Of Ammonium Nitrate And Other Substances Discovered In Bushes At Anto Aboso

The Shama District Chief Executive, Mr. Ebenezer Dadzie, says residents living around communities closer to quarries are in fear following last week’s explosion at KobinaAnoKrom.

He says a search conducted by the District Security Council retrieved quantities of Ammonium Nitrate and other explosives in a nearby bush at Anto Aboso in the Shama District.

” Since the incident occurred, there has been fear and panic, especially in the communities around the quarry. The issue is that because of what happened, they are afraid, and do not know when another incident will occur again.

DISEC had a meeting, and upon intelligence, we came to meet these explosives. We don’t know who brought them here but once we saw them, we called the Minerals Commission to confirm if indeed they were explosives.

They have confirmed that indeed it is an explosive material.”

According to him, it is necessary to work with all to ensure such an incident does not occur, and he entreated the locals to fulfil their civic responsibilities by informing authorities of any questionable activities of local operators.

Assistant Manager at the Western Regional Minerals Commission, Francis Annobil Jnr. says only companies with a requisite permit, facilities and qualified personnel can keep and use explosives.

He said it was unclear which quarry company owned those explosives.

This discovery of the explosives was made possible by the efforts of the Minerals Commission and the Shama District Security Council.
