Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah has officially concluded his tenure in the Ghana Police Service upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

COP Mensah dedicated more than 30 years of his career to the police force, occupying various roles, including Director General of Operations.

In recent weeks, he gained significant public attention in Ghana due to the leak of an audio recording in which he allegedly discussed the performance of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, and advocated for his removal from office, citing mismanagement of the Police Service.

The leaked recording is now the subject of an investigation by a parliamentary ad hoc committee, with COP George Mensah and other police officers having already testified before the committee.

In accordance with the Police Service Regulation, 2012, Constitution Instrument (CI 76), COP Mensah is entitled to various retirement benefits, including gratuities and pensions. Additionally, he is eligible to receive approved service-related benefits as sanctioned by the Police Council.
