The Media Is To Blame For GHAMRO’s Inability To Pay Enough Royalties In The Past – Okyeame Kwame
Ghanaian talented musician and entrepreneur, Okyeame Kwame, has professed that TV and radio stations were the reason why GHAMRO weren’t paying satisfying royalties.
GHAMRO has always been on the negative side of the news when it comes to paying royalties and fulfilling its responsibilities as a music organization.
However, Okyeame Kwame who used to work at GHAMRO, has revealed reasons why GHAMRO has fallen short when it comes to performing their responsibilities to artiste.
“To be honest I’ve not been to GHAMRO for a long time now and so anything I’ll say now about GHAMRO will be based on when I used to work there. I quite remember that GHAMRO weren’t paying royalties like they were expected to because you the radio and TV stations weren’t paying for the songs you play on air.
We have processes you have to go through to make sure everything is successful. Anytime you play a song on air, you have to log in and keep records just for us to know the number of songs and the number of times you played them, but you weren’t doing it. This made it hard for GHAMRO to get enough money to pay good royalties to the rightful owners.”, he revealed.
Speaking to Nana Ama Shancy on Spice FM’s OFIE ne fie, he was asked about the effort GHAMRO put in place to ensure the elimination of the said improper act performed by TV and Radio stations.
“GHAMRO’s work is a lot and therefore cannot monitor every Radio and TV station frequently and accordingly. And you know Ghana is a country where people will commit a crime or a mistake and will call their families and friends with good positions to rescue them, and it all plays a role in the downfall of our industry and the lives of our artiste”.
However, Okyeame Kwame made it clear that currently he doesn’t know the state and manner of GHAMRO and thus, cannot talk about the problems they’re facing now.
