Two people dead due to a shooting incident in Nsawam Adoagyiri
Two individuals have lost their lives due to a shooting occurrence that unfolded in Nsawam Adoagyiri within the Eastern Region.
Among the four individuals who sustained gunshot injuries, two of them, who remain unidentified, tragically lost their lives. They were promptly taken to the Nsawam government hospital on Tuesday, following a renewed dispute concerning chieftaincy matters in the locality.
In the preceding week, an individual sustained a gunshot wound shortly after certain members of the Abuakwa Traditional Council, accompanied by a substantial police and military presence, installed an alternative chief for Nsawam Adoagyiri. This action provoked the residents of Nsawam Adoagyiri, who pledge allegiance to Akyem Kotoku.
According to information obtained from sources, the incident on Tuesday transpired during a procession led by the parallel chief, Chief Barima Adu Korkoor III. This occurred as he paraded through the main thoroughfares of Nsawam, subsequent to his return from the Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi.
During his visit, he undertook an oath before the Okyehene and the Abuakwa Traditional Council, solidifying his enstoolment that had taken place the previous week.
While the police have initiated investigations into this violent incident which has resulted in the demise of two individuals within the municipality, the local community members are becoming increasingly anxious due to the prevailing lack of security.
There is a growing concern that retaliatory actions could further escalate the situation, if not expeditiously addressed by the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and all other relevant stakeholders.
