Bishop Bernard Ogyiri Asare, General Overseer of the Zion Praise Chapel International (ZPCI) has admonished Ghanaians in particular Christians to always make it a point to pray for the Government and leaders at the helm of affairs in the country so that the purposes of God will be seen in the land as they give us their best.
He stressed that it was good that people offered constructive criticisms of the Government to do its best and to give us the best, it was also important that people lifted up prayers for them because, in as much as they want to do well, there seem to be some untraceable forces that also fight against them behind the scenes.
“Because the enemy always wants to see a nation that is divided, a nation where there is anarchy, there is confusion and where people are killing themselves. The enemy always wants to see that, so he stirs up people to create problems and so it is good we criticise our government constructively but it is also good that we seek the best for them”, he stated.
Bishop Asare who was speaking in an interview with the GNA after church service, however, drew the attention of Ghanaians to the fact that the Bible enjoins us to pray for those who are in authority so that the citizens live a peaceful and quiet life.
“So as we criticise them constructively to do the right thing we must also consider them in our daily prayers”, pointed out.
He recounted an incident that took place at the floor of parliament where parliamentarians engaged in fisticuffs which do not portray a good image of the country looking at the fact that lt was coming from people who have been mandated to make laws for the growth and development of the country.
However, he contended that Ghanaians should not forget that behind the scenes there are some invisible forces that are also fighting against them and the country hence, the need to pray for people in government and all that were in authority.
Bishop Asare further implored the members in government and in other leadership positions to strive to implement policies and initiatives that were geared toward improving the quality of life for the citizens so as to alleviate poverty if not eliminate it.
He admonished that partisan politics should not divide us as a country but rather support one another and complement the efforts of each other irrespective of one’s political standing so as to put the country on the wheels of development to better the lives of Ghanaians.
He noted that Ghanaians entered into a social contract with the political party in Government and therefore expect them to perform to satisfaction for which reason they cannot fail in the discharge of their mandate saying, “everybody is replaceable whether you are in Government or in opposition and for that matter if you fail to perform you will be rejected and replaced.”
