The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gearing up for its Special Electoral College event, slated for Saturday, August 26th, 2023, with voting set to occur from 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM, according to Evans Nimako, the Director of Research and Election for the NPP.

He disclosed that the party’s regional offices have established dedicated voting stations, which will be staffed by officials from the Electoral Commission (EC).

Addressing the media in anticipation of the upcoming NPP Super Delegates Conference, Mr. Nimako explained that the conference holds considerable significance, as approximately 958 delegates are poised to make pivotal decisions.

These delegates will play a decisive role in selecting five out of the ten NPP presidential aspirants, who will subsequently contend in the party’s presidential primary on November 4th, 2023.

After the conclusion of the voting process, the Electoral Commission will be responsible for tabulating the results. Mr. Nimako revealed that these outcomes will be disseminated at regional centers and relayed to the EC headquarters in Accra for aggregation.

A distinct voting center will be established at the NPP headquarters to accommodate the participation of the Party’s Council of Elders, National Executive Committee members, external branches, and party wings encompassing youth, women, and the Nasara group.

Ministers of State who are not Members of Parliament (MPs) are also anticipated to exercise their voting rights at this venue.

Elaborating on the security measures in place, the Director of Research and Election, clarified that all security concerns will be managed by the Ghana Police Service. He highlighted that discussions with the presidential aspirants, their agents, the EC, and the police have yielded an agreement in this regard.

Outlining the operational framework for the electoral process, Mr. Nimako shared that the EC will provide copies of the NPP’s register and a photo album to each aspirant. Every aspirant will also be entitled to two agents, who will be authorized to monitor the polling stations throughout the process.

Post-counting, copies of the results will be furnished to each aspirant for transparency and verification.
