Doing Afrobeat Doesn’t Take Away Our Originality-DJay
Promising music sensation, DJay, has stated categorically that Ghanaians doing afrobeat doesn’t mean they’re not original.
“It even shows how united we are as blacks,.” He said.
In an exclusive interview with Nana Ama Shancy on SPICE OFIE ne fie, he revealed that Afrobeat is made up of highlife, thus Ghanaians are welcome to embrace the genre.
”No we’ve not lost our originality because we do afrobeat.
First of all, afrobeat was made up of our highlife, so what do we call the Nigerians then? Even some Nigerians are still doing highlife and so we are not on the wrong path”, he asserted.
The “balance it” hitmaker furthered up by saying afrobeat is the umbrella of all African genres. “ We have afrobeat and afro beats. With the afro beats, it includes all types of beats. There’s some highlife kind of beat in there, you can get an Amapiano vibe in there, it’s just variety.
All we need to understand is afrobeat is the umbrella of all genres”, He added.
DJay being an Afrobeat singer confuses Ghanaians making them think he’s a Nigerian but he seems proud of that because Nigeria is the main hub of music here in Africa. DJay has a new debut single titled “Amina” on all platforms.
