Professor Gyampo has been elected as the President of UTAG-UG
Professor Ransford Edward Gyampo, a distinguished scholar in the field of Political Science at the University of Ghana, has been successfully elected as the President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) for the University of Ghana branch.
With a remarkable show of support, Professor Gyampo secured an impressive 93.3 percent of the total votes cast during the election held on August 15th, 2023.
Having previously served as the Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana and also as the immediate past General Secretary of UTAG-UG Chapter, Professor Gyampo’s new role as President marks a significant ascent in the association’s leadership hierarchy.
In response to this notable achievement, Professor Gyampo expressed profound gratitude to his fellow educators for their trust and belief in his leadership. He also extended appreciation to his students and well-wishers who supported his endeavors.
He shared his election outcome, stating, “I have just won my election as President of UTAG (UG) with 93.3 percent of the total valid votes cast. Thanks to you all for the well wishes; thanks to all my colleague lecturers for the confidence they have shown in me and thanks to my students who were relentless in their support for me.”
Professor Gyampo reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to advocating for the welfare of his colleagues and vowed to continue his proactive approach to addressing their needs. He expressed his readiness to carry forward the momentum from his previous role as General Secretary.
Known for his active engagement in national discussions, Professor Gyampo emphasized that his pursuit of UTAG’s best interests in his new role would be driven by dedication rather than animosity towards any administration.
“In the driving seat myself, I’ll champion the interest of my people forcefully and proactively. I lost some friends as General Secretary and I do not mind losing more as I fight harder for the University Teacher in my capacity as President,’ the newly elected UTAG-UG President insisted.
He cautioned that the new UTAG leadership, under his guidance, would not seek confrontation but would assertively address issues.
He emphasized the resolute nature of the executive team, emphasizing that they would not be deterred when it comes to standing up for their beliefs.
“The caliber of people who now constitute the entire executives are no-nonsense people, such that, when we are pushed to fight, it would be militant, damn the consequences, and we won’t listen to anyone.”
