The Food and Drugs Authority, FDA says it is the responsibility of manufacturers of products to ensure the safety of their products.
The FDA has the mandate to regulate food, drugs, food supplements, herbal and homoeopathic medicines, veterinary medicines, cosmetics, household chemical substances, as well as blood and blood products.
As part of their duties, they ensure and enforce relevant standards for food and medical devices to protect public health.
Speaking at the 3rd Regional Trade Show organized by the SNV Ghana in Takoradi, Francis Dodome, who represented the Regional Director of FDA, Martin Kusi, said products manufactured must meet the standard requirements before registering.
He called for collective efforts of other regulating bodies to ensure the safety of all products on the market.
“I would like to say that Product safety, even though we at FDA are to regulate and ensure that products on the market are safe.
I would also like to state that it is a collective responsibility of the producers of the product, and other stakeholders have a role to play in ensuring that the products on the market are safe,” He said.
He said, as part of sustaining business, a scheme known as a progressive licensing scheme is issued to a producer or manufacturer after the operation site has been inspected.
Adding that businesses are categorized based on their recommendations from the Authority.
