Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Collaborates With Zoomlion To Evacuate Waste Heaps In Western North Region
Three districts in the Western North region have benefited from the ongoing refuse evacuation exercise being implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Zoomlion.
This is to help address morbidity and mortality in the country, especially the women and children who are more vulnerable.
The beneficiary districts are Souaman, Dadieso, Bodi, and Akontombra. The exercise is expected to be extended to the remaining 6 districts and municipalities in the region.
Humans are liable to diseases like malaria, cholera, and diarrhoea as refuse dumps become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other flies.
The Regional Coordinator of Zoomlion Ghana, Isaac Marfo, said the exercise will see specialized waste management vehicles deployed across the region to efficiently collect and transport the accumulated waste to a proper disposal facility.
He opined that the exercise will take place in four sites in three districts.
He stated that “After here, we will submit our report and then move on to the second phase.”
Some of the areas, Mr. Marfo mentioned would be given containers for promoting waste, whilst other sites will be used for other things.
District Chief Executive of Sefwi Akontombra, Amoah Yawson lauded the joint initiative and underscored the importance of continued collaboration to sustain the positive outcome of the refuse evacuation exercise.
” With this type of work, I want to thank the President and the Ministry of Local Government for this initiative,” He said.
He said it is incumbent on Ghanaians to take care of their surroundings and to protect their health and well-being.
Some of the residents applauded the government and Zoomlion for the initiative which they said has brought them relief.
