Speaker of Parliament Calls For The Protection of Constitutional Rule

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin has entreated Ghanaians to uphold and defend the constitution of Ghana.

According to him, Ghanaians only benefit from constitutional rule when we consolidate our democracy.

” Democracy is an ending journey. This exercise is stock-taking, it’s critical because we need to consolidate our democracy if it is to deliver the dividends that we all anticipate. The truth is with all the imperfections that we might associate with the current governance system, there is still no alternative that is better than what we have.

The most important thing for all of us is to wake up to our civil responsibilities to protect and defend the Constitution of Ghana as provided for in Article 3 Clause 3 of the constitution,” The Speaker said.

He made these remarks at a public forum in Takoradi to mark three decades of uninterrupted democracy in Ghana.

The event was marked under the theme, 30 Years of Parliamentary Democracy under the Fourth Republic: the journey thus far.

Mr Bagbin, however, chronicled some of the key legislations that have been passed by the 4th Republican parliament.

Adding to that, the passage of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill will be passed.
