Two individuals apprehended in Tarkwa for engaging in the sale of counterfeit ECG meters
Two individuals, Stella Ankomah (23) and Eric Kwaisie (29), both hailing from Jomoro, have been apprehended by the Tarkwa Central Police on charges of false pretense and other offenses.
The duo posed as legitimate employees of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and managed to deceive an unsuspecting customer in Damang, Western Region, by selling and installing a counterfeit electricity meter for a hefty sum of GH¢4,700.
Thankfully, the customer grew suspicious of their activities and promptly informed the District Manager, who quickly involved the police, and led to the impersonators being apprehended.
Benjamin Quarcoo, the Western Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, issued a stern warning that the company is actively vigilant in apprehending and prosecuting such fraudsters who prey on innocent customers.
He further urged the public to be cautious and deal exclusively with authorized ECG officials at their offices and customer service centers to avoid falling victim to such deceptive schemes that aim to swindle people out of their hard-earned money.
