Black Sherif: The CEO of Cruise People Ltd. presents his perspective following the artist’s arrest

In the past few hours, the news of the arrest of Ghanaian singer and rapper, Black Sherif, at Kotoka International Airport has surprised many.

According to sources close to the musician, the arrest stemmed from an incident involving an event organized by Cruise People Limited. The sources explained that Black Sherif had been contracted for a cruise performance and received an initial deposit. However, the organizers demanded promotional videos, which were allegedly not part of the original agreement. Despite the singer’s team choosing to refund the initial payment, the organizers insisted on a $50,000 compensation, citing a breach of contract.

The CEO of Cruise People Limited, Daniel Vanderpuye, has now come forward to share his side of the story and shed light on the events leading up to the arrest. According to Mr. Vanderpuye, his company had initially reached out to Black Sherif’s team about the possibility of him performing on a cruise ship for Ghanaians in the diaspora. After negotiations, an agreed-upon date of August 19 and a payment of $40,000 were established.

However, Black Sherif’s team requested a down payment of $20,000 and asked Cruise People Limited to communicate with Eko Talent Agency, responsible for overseas bookings for the artist. The agency sent a contract to be signed, and the initial deposit was wired as requested.

Mr. Vanderpuye stated that, as per the contract, Black Sherif’s team was expected to provide a 10-15 seconds video for promotional purposes before a media launch on May 19. Despite assurances from Eko Talent, the video was not made available, leading to concerns about a breach of agreement. A letter regarding the breach was sent on May 22, but no response was received.

Efforts to reach out to Black Sherif’s team, including industry figures, proved unsuccessful, and it was only after the police intervention that they initiated the process of refunding the down payment. The situation has left Cruise People Limited feeling mistreated and now they are preparing to pursue a civil suit against Black Sherif to resolve the matter.

It’s essential to clarify that Cruise People Limited’s intentions are not to impede Black Sherif’s career, but to seek resolution for what they believe to be a clear breach of agreement in the business transaction.
