Food suppliers displeased with NAFCo’s ‘insufficient’ payment of debts
The National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCo) has initiated partial payments to members of the National Food Suppliers Association, who were owed debts.
However, the food suppliers have expressed disappointment, stating that the amount received from NAFCo is insufficient to settle their debts with creditors. The Minister of Agriculture had initially promised to settle the debt on July 17, but the commitment was not fulfilled.
A new assurance was given for the debt to be settled on July 20. Nevertheless, the food suppliers, who had submitted their documents for payment, claim that the money provided is inadequate, as only half of the 2022 debt was paid.
The Minister of Food and Agriculture had further reassured the food suppliers that 50% of the outstanding payments owed to them would be disbursed by the end of July 19, 2023.
As per the Minister, an amount of ¢100 million, representing half of the total debt of ¢203 million, was already transferred to the accounts of the food suppliers on July 17, 2023, with the remaining amount expected to be credited to their accounts at a later date.
