The Minister in Charge of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has indicated that food suppliers would receive payment of arrears owed starting on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
Food suppliers for the past weeks have been picketing at the National Buffer Stock office for weeks due to the government’s inability to settle GH270m in arrears owed to them since 2022,
The government has finally given over GH¢100 million to settle the food providers after several weeks of picketing.
At a news conference, the National Food Suppliers Association (NFSA) said that the government had broken its promise to pay off the debt on Monday, July 17.
However, the Minister stated in Parliament on Tuesday, July 18, “Hopefully, payment will begin on Wednesday, and in a month, the total payment will be made.”
Dr Bryan Acheampong added that he was startled by the recent events because his ministry has never had problems with suppliers.
The Minister emphasized that “all the happenings have been taken in good faith and will continue to work with food suppliers.”
