Management of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park defends entry charge increase

The management of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has justified its decision to raise fees by more than 500 percent. The new charges entail GH¢100 for non-Ghanaian adults, GH¢25 for Ghanaian adults, GH¢60 for non-Ghanaian tertiary students, GH¢5 for Ghanaian tertiary students, and GH¢5 for school children.

The management explained that the increased fees are necessary to cover the maintenance costs of the recently added facilities within the park. Without implementing these measures, they would struggle to sustain the upkeep of these new amenities.

The park, which underwent redevelopment, was officially inaugurated on July 4, 2023, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The President expressed his belief that the refurbished park would attract approximately one million domestic and international tourists each year.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the government’s commitment to investing in the tourism sector as a means of revitalizing the economy.
