Food Suppliers – We hope Govt redeems its July 17 payment promise
The National Food Suppliers Association has warned that if the government fails to fulfill its promise of paying them their money starting from July 17, they will be compelled to resume their picketing.
In a recent statement, Minister of Agriculture Bryan Acheampong assured that the payment processes for food suppliers would commence on Monday, July 17. This assurance came after members of the National Food Suppliers Association had staged a four-day picketing at the National Food Buffer Stock Company, demanding payment for the food items they had supplied to senior high schools across the country.
Kwaku Amedume, the spokesperson for the association, expressed hope that the government would honor its commitment. While acknowledging that the Minister had met with them on Friday and provided assurances, Amedume clarified that their departure from the premises was not solely due to those assurances.
He explained that they believed they had raised significant awareness about their demand for payment, and that the Buffer Stock Company had acknowledged its debt to them and pledged to make the payment by July 17. They now await the government to fulfill its promise.
