Steering Committee On Lands Sector Multi-Stakeholder Platform Inaugurated

The Steering Committee for the Lands Sector Multi-Stakeholder Platform (LSMSP) was established on July 5, 2023, by Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, in order to carry out the recommendations derived from the National Lands Conference held in December of last year.

The Platform, according to Hon. Benito, will bring together all significant players in the land and natural resource sector, including state and non-state actors, to use inclusive and participatory processes to monitor the implementation of the Conference’s recommendations and to ensure coordination in the planning, management, and use of land and natural resources.

He added that the LSMSP’s framework consists of a Coordinating Team, a Steering Committee, Technical Working Groups, a Secretariat located in the Ministry, and a Secretariat that will be in charge of managing all the organizational and technical tasks associated with establishing and implementing the LSMSP in Ghana.

“First, we envision a well-informed and equipped citizenry that can actively participate in land governance and management,” Mr Owusu-Bio said in a statement outlining the four results envisioned by this Committee. Second, we want to make land tenure arrangements better so that people may use and access land with security and predictability.

Thirdly, in order to ensure that land and natural resources are managed sustainably and fairly, we wish to encourage good collaboration among important stakeholders. Finally, we intend to give duty holders comments to help the nation’s land governance, management, and administration improve.

To achieve these outcomes, the Deputy Minister disclosed that 32 stakeholder institutions have been identified as members of the LSMSP. These institutions he stated include State Agencies, Traditional Authorities, Private Sector Actors, Civil Society Organizations, Development Partners, Media, Academia, Professional Bodies, and Community-Based Organizations.
