Individual Bondholders To Begin Picketing Finance Ministry Over Outstanding Payments

The Coalition of Individual Bondholders Groups has announced that they will begin picketing the Ministry of Finance on July 11, 2023, to demand payment of outstanding principal and coupons as well as the immediate implementation of the agreement reached and documented in the Memorandum of Understanding on May 16, this year.

The Coalition asserts that some bond payments have been in arrears for more than a hundred days and that more than 50 days have passed since the Coalition and the parties reached an agreement on the parameters of the Memorandum of Understanding with no action taken nor any communication on the next steps.

Senyo Hosi and Dr Joel Djangma, the joint signatories of a statement by the conveners of the Individual Bondholder Forum and Ghana’s Individual Bondholders Association, claim that the government has acted in a disrespectful, insensitive, condescending treatment of its citizens, whose only transgression had been to trust it with their savings.

According to them, what is worse is the ongoing pain and suffering that these citizens and their dependents must endure.

The groups declared that starting on July 11, 2023, they will picket every day until their complaints are resolved. On Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 1 p.m., they will conduct a town hall meeting to go through the specifics of the picketing before it begins.

All bondholders, supporters, and dependents are encouraged to join the picketing, according to the statement.
