According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister for Information, a total of 88 hospitals under the ‘Agenda 111’ initiative are currently under construction.

President Nana Akufo-Addo launched the project on August 17, 2021, with a commitment to completing the construction of 111 hospitals within 18 months.

Land acquisition challenges in certain districts have raised concerns about the government’s dedication to the project. Nevertheless, the government remains confident that all hospitals will be completed before the end of President Akufo-Addo’s second term.

During a press briefing in Trede, Ashanti region, where the project was initiated two years ago, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that some hospitals that have fallen behind schedule have been terminated.

“We currently have 88 hospitals under construction, grouped into eight zones, comprising a total of 54 projects. We have visited 33 sites thus far and we believe that it is important to showcase the progress from Trede, where it all began,” he said.

The Minister provided reports on the sites visited, highlighting the majority that are progressing well and a few that are lagging behind schedule. He also mentioned the termination of projects that failed to meet the required timelines.

Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, the Presidential advisor on health, reassured that adequate funding is available for the completion of the project. He emphasized that these hospitals will not only create job opportunities for nurses but also contribute to Ghana’s overall economic growth upon completion.
