W/R: GSTS Emerges Winners In The Renewable Energy Challenge

The fourth edition of the regional senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge has ended with Ghana Secondary Technical School, GSTS, emerging as the winner amongst 7 schools.

GSTS topped six other schools after a fierce display of knowledge on renewable energy.

The event was organised by the Energy Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, GES, this year’s competition was on the theme: ” Mechanizing Small-Scale Agriculture using renewable energy Technologies.”

The challenge had sponsorship from German Agency International Cooperation (GIZ), Ashesi University, Bui Power Authority, and Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited.

The event also saw the launch of the Energy Commission of the Renewable Energy Challenge.

GSTS won with 81 points and was presented with a plaque and branded T-shirts from Ashesi University.

The remaining schools received branded T-shirts, mathematical sets, and books from Energy Commission.
Tarkwa Senior High School came through with 71 points taking the second spot, and Adiembra Senior High School with 70.2 points occupied the third position.

Shama SHS, Fijai SHS and Baidoo Bonsoe SHS garnered 65.5 points,65.2 points and 44 points to take the fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

However, Archbishop Porters Girls SHS being the 7th school could not make it to the competition.

The Managing Director of the Energy Commission, Kofi Agyarko delivered a speech on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ing Oscar Amonoo Neizer mentioned that competition was to promote the development of efficient use of renewable energy resources through public education, training and regulation of entrepreneurs in the sector.

” The Commission intends to support the Ghana Education Service to eliminate the chew, pour, pass and forget phenomenon in the educational system of Ghana and promote the practical application of theoretical knowledge,” He said.

The final challenge would take place on October 17, 2023.
