GMet – Wet weather conditions expected to ease in August

GMet

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecasted a reduction in the current wet weather conditions across various parts of Ghana by the second week of August 2023.

In its rainfall weather advisory issued today, the GMet stated that the prevalence of wet weather conditions such as cloudy skies and cool days would gradually diminish.

However, squall lines capable of producing moderate to severe thunderstorms or rain are expected, particularly in the Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, and coastal areas.

The onset of the unimodal rainy season has led to frequent thunderstorms or rain of varying intensities, accompanied by lightning and moderate windy conditions. Flash floods may occur in certain locations in Northern Ghana and a few areas in Southern Ghana.

According to the GMet advisory, in recent days, moist winds originating from the Gulf of Guinea or the Southern Hemisphere have moved into the West African subregion. This has contributed to cloudy skies, intermittent sunny breaks, and slight to moderate wet weather conditions observed in the Greater Accra, Central, Western, and Western North regions.

The general public is advised to stay updated on weather conditions, especially individuals residing in Northern Ghana, and to plan outdoor activities accordingly.
