A woman is accused of killing two of her newborns and keeping the bodies in her freezer for years, according to police in South Korea, for which they have requested an arrest warrant.

An official with the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police told reporters that the woman, who is in her 30s, admitted to killing the infants and claimed that she did so because she was having trouble paying for the care of her other three children, who were 12, 10, and 8.

The official further stated that the infants were only a day old when they died.

Her fourth child, who was delivered in a hospital in November 2018, was her first alleged victim. The girl was allegedly strangled the day after her birth, and her body was placed in the freezer of her house, according to police.

In November 2019, she gave birth to her fifth child, a boy. She is accused of doing the same to him.

According to police, her husband claimed he had been informed that the two children had been aborted and as a result, he was unaware of the alleged murders.

The case was made public in May after the government’s Board of Audit and Inspection discovered that despite there being a hospital record of the babies’ births, they were never officially registered.

In response to the mother’s refusal of an on-site inspection, the board then notified Suwon City Hal, the municipal government, which then made a police investigation request.

The woman allegedly confessed to the killings during a police search and seizure operation on June 21 at her home.

On Friday, the woman is due appear at an arrest warrant hearing.
