Court stops OSP from arresting Charles Bissue
Following a request by the attorneys of Charles Bissue , the Accra Human Rights Court, presided over by Justice Nicholas Abodakpi, has issued an order for an interim injunction preventing the Office of the Special Prosecutor or its agents from carrying out the arrest warrant they claim to have obtained.
The Special Prosecutor has also been ordered by the Court to stop requesting additional arrest warrants and disseminating notices claiming the applicant is being sought while the substantive matter is still being decided.
The case has been postponed until June 22, 2023, and the order is valid for 10 days.
The former secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue, was declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Tuesday, June 13.
This declaration is due to Mr. Bissue’s failure to appear in response to a request from the Special Prosecutor and respond to inquiries about the ongoing inquiry into alleged corruption within the disbanded IMCIM.
Mr. Bissue recently attempted to stop the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from bringing charges against him by filing a writ at the High Court in Accra. The Special Prosecutor’s ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption involving Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, the Chairman of the IMCIM, prompted this legal action.
