Former President Mahama Urges African Governments To Double Up In Job Creation

Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on African governments to double job creation to keep up with the growing unemployment rate which is a ticking time bomb.

He says Africa has the largest educated young population who are eager to enter the world of work.

Speaking at the Korea – Africa business summit in Soeul, former President Mahama said, the youth must see a much brighter future ahead.

Korea, he said can help Africa’s young innovators and entrepreneurs to realize their dreams.

Former President Mahama says there are opportunities in Ghana, especially in the financial sector.

He mentioned that Africa and for that matter are still rich in natural resources which are worth exploring for their benefits.

” Africa is the youngest continent and has the largest population of young people in the world today. Africa needs to double this job creation capacity in order to keep up with or else that bulge will turn into a ticking time bomb.

To do this we must accelerate the growth of African economies, we must diversify our economies from just the export of primary products, and, let us thrive for value addition for our exports. We must promote African entrepreneurship and enterprise but above all, we must expand trade amongst ourselves.

It is said that Africa still possesses more than 50 per cent of the world’s arable lands and there is a demand for technology solutions in the agricultural value chain and agribusiness. Africa is known to be endowed with enormous natural resources.” He said.

The Korea -Africa Summit seeks to foster closer business and development ties between the people of Korea and Africa.

It would also create a platform to focus on prioritizing necessary steps needed to fast-track collaborative partnerships for optimal benefits.
