Network Of Churches, Ministers And Councils In The Western Region Speak Against LGBTQIA+ Activities
The Chairman of the Network of Churches and Bishop of the Methodist Church, the Right Reverend Emmanuel Kwesi Ansah said the Christian leadership in the Western Region, has resolved to speak to the issue of homosexuality since the region is most affected.
At the press conference, the network stated that they are in support of promoting proper human sexual rights and the Ghanaian family values bill currently before Parliament.
According to Right Revered Emmanuel Kwesi Ansah, the region has seen an influx of foreign culture exposing most of the youth to activities of the LGBTQIA+.
He said, there are a lot of vulnerable people who feel threatened and overwhelmed by such acts of perversion and have reposed confidence in the leadership of the church to give them hope and voice.
He adds that the network will do all within its means to meet their expectations.
He, however, noted that the network is not on a hate campaign but rather a bid to rid the country of the menace which threatens to corrupt the moral fibre of the nation.
“We wish to state unequivocally and also with heartfelt sincerity that, the Church is not embarking on a hate campaign. We love our brethren who have unfortunately been involved in LGBTQIA + activities and extend unconditional positive regards to them.
After all, some members of the LGBTQAI+ community may be worshipping in our churches. Our position is that the church cannot condone their acts of perversion since it has grave consequences for the sanctity of the moral values of posterity, the sacredness of our cultural heritage, as well as the fortunes and destiny of this country,” He said.
” The Network of Churches in the Western Region, vehemently oppose any attempt by any group of people, be they natives or foreigners, who want to impose an evil practice which is not in sync with the spirit and soul of our Motherland,”
The Right Revered Ansah mentioned that homosexuality is a pervasion undesirable to God and a country which allows it to gain root stand the risk of incurring the wrath of God,” Rev. Ansah added.
He added that the network is oblivious to government efforts in addressing the socio-economic needs of the country, thus calling for the public strengthening of institutions to ensure laws do not conflict with the country’s spiritual, cultural, and social norms as the youth stands the risk of being vulnerable to the act.
Members of the various churches under the network embarked on a demonstration to make their stance clear and presented a petition expressing their concern to the Western Regional Minister.
Receiving the petition, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah assured the group of receiving feedback from the President.
” I have accepted your petition and will be sending it to the President, what ever the content is, I will follow up and make sure that he attends to it,”
