IES Predict Significant Electricity Demand In 2023

Policy and Research Analyst, Adam Yakubu at the Institute of Energy Security, IES is projecting a significant electricity demand this year.

This, the Institute said would increase a high hydro generation which would help the country to meet expected growth in demand for the rest of 2023.

IES explained that if the natural gas supply is sustained and planned plant maintenance is adhered to, hydro Power will produce the biggest growth in the energy mix.

He said, ” If priority is given to our hydroelectric generation, over thermal generation, we should be assured of sustained supply but the Ghana Grid Company has indicated a number of reasons for the recent outages that have been witnessed across the country.

Some interruptions in the gas supply which is one of the reasons we did indicate that if we want to have a sustained supply of power, we should give priority to hydro generation as against the thermal supply.”
