Policymakers Urged To Address Issues On Labour Mobility

Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Anim has reiterated the need for policymakers to look at the 2022 Annual Household and Income Expenditure Survey, AHIES Labour report from the perspective of employment mobility, its causes, and how to address them.

He indicated that labour mobility in the report would aid policymakers and implementing agencies in understanding how people move from across different economic activities and statuses.

According to him, this is to move away from the narrative of just quoting figures about unemployment and instead provide targeted solutions to address peculiar challenges identified.

He noted that ” A lot of people are moving out of the industry sector, specifically we see about Ninety-six Thousand Nine Three Nine persons moving from the industry sector to the agricultural sector and we also see another One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Eighteen people moving from the industry sector to the agricultural sector.”

Professor Annim presenting the 2022 AHIES report, appealed to the government to pay critical attention to its industrialization drive as more people within the industry moved into agriculture, and service in the last quarter of 2022.

The report also showed that youth between the ages of 15 and 35 are either not in employment, education, or training.
