We will Resist Attempt To Include Pension Funds In Debt Exchange Programme – Organised Labour

Organised Labor has said attempts by the government to repackage the Domestic Debt Exchange Program to include pension funds will be fiercely resisted.

The government has earlier exited pension funds from the program after agitations from Labour Unions.

A government notice issued on Tuesday 31 said a discussion was being finalized with Organised Labor and pension fund trustees on a separate arrangement with an MOU signed with labor unions on 22 December last year.

Organised Labour in a statement reminded government of its agreement with union leaders to exempt pension funds in the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).

They reiterate that this position is final as far as involvement of pension funds in the DDEP is concerned.

The statement said any contrary communication or position is alien to Organised Labour and should be dismissed by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

The statement assured all workers of Ghana that Orgainsed Labour would continue to safeguard their interest at all times.

DDEP forms part of government’s effort to assure the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of debt sustainability and gain creditors’ conference in the Fund’s $3 billion loan support programme.
