Traders At Takoradi New Market Receive Training In Fire Safety

Over 2 Hundred 56 shops and stalls within the Takoradi New Market got gutted by fire on April 4, 2022.

The fire which started in the early hours razed down structures destroying several wares and running into Thousands of cedis.

The Takoradi New Market was created to relocate traders to make way for the redevelopment of the Takoradi Central Market.

Following the unfortunate incident which occurred a year ago, the Ghana National Fire Service has put measures in a place to prevent further occurrence of fire outbreaks.

The Western Regional Fire Command, ACFO 1 Frederick Ohemeng together with this team was at the Market to assess compliance and ascertain whether the market women are adhering to the safety
measures.

ACFO 1 Ohemeng expressed satisfaction after some of the market women were taken through some demonstrations on how to use the fire extinguisher.

The Regional Commander was, however, not happy about the blocking of a major access route into the market saying it makes it difficult for personnel from his outfit to work during emergencies.
