National Road Safety To Begin Sensitisation Exercise Ahead of Easter Celebrations

As part of efforts to reduce road carnage during the Easter festivities, the National Road Safety Authority, NRSA is to embark on a sensitization and enforcement exercise on roads in the Metropolis.

Schools, churches, lorry stations, and mosques are some of the targeted places for this exercise.

An Official with the NRSA In Sekondi-Takoradi, Stephen Ankama, revealed that the exercise will be done in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ghana Fire Service, Driver, and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA to offer road safety education to drivers and pedestrians as they prepare to go into the festive.

In an interview with Kwame Offie on Spice 91.9 FM, Mr Ankama, the program seeks to ensure that road users observe road regulations before, during, and after the Easter season.

” We have started engaging and sensitization school-going children and the youth to be vigilant on our roads. We are also going to collaborate with the fire service, MTTD, DVLA and other stakeholders so that together we will take all the necessary precautions so as ensure that we all celebrate Easter safely.

This will be an all-inclusive program and as such churches, schools and even people at the market will not be left out. We are starting this early so that we all see a successful Easter celebration, ” Mr Ankama noted.

Madam Precious Domevenu nonetheless, appealed to passengers to adhere to road safety protocols by wearing seatbelts and avoiding doing things that distract the attention of the driver whilst driving.

Drivers, on the other hand, are advised to drive within the speed limit and endeavour to provide fire extinguishers and other relevant tools in their vehicles.

“We explain to the passengers the purpose of these exercises, which is to keep them secure in the car in order to avoid accidents, as they frequently have no idea what is going on when the drivers are being checked out.

When we teach them, the passengers most frequently whine that their time is being spent but they usually understand why it is essential. So before you resume your tour, we make sure you have the required gear. Before boarding the car, there are a few things you should keep an eye out for as a passenger, such as a vehicle’s condition, the tyres, and the seatbelts for safety, ” She said.
