Nigeria’s Ruling Party Retains Control Of Lagos

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party retained control of the country’s commercial hub, Lagos, in state elections marked by low turnout.

With a population of more than 20 million, Lagos is the largest metropolis in Africa.

In contested presidential elections held in the state last month that have been contested in court, voters supported opposition candidate Peter Obi.

According to statistics released by the electoral commission, incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu kept his position with a vote total of over 760,000, more than double the number of his nearest competitor.

Before the final count was announced, his opponent contested the result and claimed fraud. He pledged to contest the outcomes.

Nigerian governors are in charge of infrastructure, hospitals, and schools with millions of dollars in budgets.
