The Food and Drugs Authority, FDA has outlined some challenges associated with its operations.
According to the FDA, citizens’ unwillingness to volunteer information to the Authority makes work rather difficult and is one of the major challenges.
This move they believe will help make operations effective and efficient by clamping down on hope that offers expired products for sale.
Dr Martin Kusi, Western Regional Director of FDA in an interview advised the public to report to the Authority cases of expired, bloated, and dented canned foods to avoid food poisoning.
“FDA just like any other government institution has numerous challenges. These challenges range from the limited workforce, logistics, and amongst others.
But our biggest challenge has to do with the citizens not being willing to report cases of expired products to us. We work with information, and we cannot do it alone. We would need collaboration from the general public to get needed information.
If we are able to get the information, it helps us to track what people are selling to the public.
We should all help ourselves as in the community. A whole community can face food poisoning if we refuse to hide wrongdoings.”
Dr. Kusi ,however, revealed that the FDA together with Environmental Health of the various Assemblies to embark on a street vending project to ensure that street food vendors operate under hygienic conditions.
