The MCE of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Abdul Mumin Issa, has called for the preservation of Ghanaian culture and Monuments at the official launch of Fort Orange at Sekondi.
This forms part of the Western Regional grand plan to make the region a competitive tourist destination hence the renovation of some significant monuments within the region.
Fort Orange was built as a trading post on the Dutch Gold Coast in 1642 at Sekondi, it also functioned as a lodge for a while during the 1670s before it was used as a trading post. The Dutch built it.
Speaking at the launch of the event, the MCE of STMA, called on the preservation of the Ghanaian Culture and Monuments to ensure that the generation unborn will benefit from Ghans’s rich culture.
“Our culture is always with us and therefore as young people, I’m entreating you to behold our culture, tradition and our cuisines in high esteem. We are celebrating this day to tell you the young ones that wherever you find yourself, whatever position you find yourself in, it is your responsibility to uphold our culture, and our tradition and also improve upon our heritage site.”
Nana Berima Ekow Gyesa II, Chief of Fijai also charged the authorities to ensure that a proper maintenance culture is adopted to prolong the life of the monument.
