I See Nothing Wrong With IMF Appointing An Advisor To Work With Central Bank – Minister Of State Designate, Finance Ministry

The Minister of State Designate in charge of Finance, Mohammed Amin Adam said, there is nothing wrong with the International Monetary Fund appointing an advisor to work with the Bank of Ghana.

Dr. Amin said the move by the IMF will not conflict with the work of the Central Bank.

” And particularly when the IMF is going to commit up to 3bilion dollars to Ghana to improve on our balance of payment, I don’t see anything with the IMF sending an officer. Because the IMF program is going to have a menu of conditions that have to be met.

And so if an advisor is working with them to ensure that these conditions are met, I don’t see it as conflicting,” Mohammed Amin noted.

According to him, the Fund has sited its office in every country which is being headed by Resident Country Directors.
Aside from that, the Fund has people serving as advisors and technical leads for Ghana, Nigeria, and amongst countries.

He believes that with the Fund establishing its presence in the country, there is an already existing relationship.

The IMF appointed a financial supervisor to provide technical support to the bank of Ghana as government strives to obtain executive board approval for a 3 billion dollar bailout.
