Public Urged To Make Use Of Public Institutions Under The Provision Of Right To Information
Ghanaians are encouraged to take advantage of the legal provision to access information from public entities and other organizations receiving funding from the state.
The Right To Information (RTI) Act 2019 (ACT 989) provides for the implementation of the constitutional rights of individuals to access official information held by public institutions and relevant private institutions that receive public resources or perform public functions.
The Shama District Officer, Mary Eshun indicated that information in any recorded material regardless of form or medium in the possession control of a public institution can be accessed under the Act.
She noted that the right to information 2019 establishes the framework for fostering a culture of transparency in Ghanaian public affairs.
Touching on the importance of the RTI Act, the RTI Officer for Mpohor District Assembly, Chris Nkrumah urged all citizens to seek accountability and transparency through the use of this Act and also through the right processes.
The RTI Officer for Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Sistel Quansah mentioned that although citizens have the right information there are a few exemptions when it is to the security of the nation, the Presidency, and some other offices and institutions.
He stated that, however, that information requiring statistics from these same institutions can be provided when need be.
