Enoch Burke: Irish Teacher To Be Fined €700 Daily If court order Is Not Obeyed

High Court

A High Court order barring an Irish teacher from going to a school where he was fired will result in a fine of €700 (£615) a day if the teacher refuses to comply.

Following an inquiry, Enoch Burke was arrested for violating a court order barring him from attending in Wilson’s Hospital School.

Despite being dismissed from the school last week, he spent a third day there on Thursday January 26.

The High Court judge ruled that if Mr. Burke visited the school once more, the fine would take effect at 14:00 local time on Friday January 27.

Daily breaches of the order could lead to the fine amounting to about €5,000 (£4,397) a week.

The court’s decision to impose a fine was made in an effort to prevent Mr. Burke from continuing his “utterly pointless attendance” at a school that did not want him on its property.

He stated that if the ruling did not have the desired impact, the fine could be doubled at a hearing scheduled for February 10th.

Prior to the conclusion of a disciplinary procedure against him, Mr. Burke was suspended with pay.

It happened when he publicly argued with his then-principal in June 2022 for objecting to calling a student who is transitioning genders by a new name and using the pronoun “they.”

Mr. Burke persisted in showing up for his scheduled hours, which prompted the school to get an injunction from the High Court.

That order prevented him from attending or attempting to teach at Wilson’s Hospital School.

Mr. Burke was imprisoned at Mountjoy Prison in Dublin last September after court order was regularly violated.
He was released after almost four months.
According to Mr. Burke, his incarceration and suspension were unlawful.
