A couple in China has been executed for the murder of two children, whom they threw out of an apartment building.

Zhang Bo, the children’s father, and Ye Chengchen were convicted of killing the two-year-old girl and one-year-old boy in 2020.

China’s Supreme Court labeled their motives as “extremely malicious” and highlighted their “cruel methods.”

Executed in the city of Chongqing, it remains unclear how the couple was put to death, but common methods in China include lethal injection or a firing squad.

Zhang’s extramarital affair with Ye, leading to divorce and a plot to kill his children, unfolded during the court proceedings.

Zhang initiated the relationship with Ye without disclosing his marital or parental status. Despite learning the truth, Ye continued the relationship.

After Zhang divorced his wife in February 2020, Ye perceived the children as obstacles to their future life together.

She pressured Zhang to carry out the murders, staged as accidental falls from the 15th-floor apartment on November 2, 2020.

The news of the execution quickly gained traction on Chinese social media platform Weibo, drawing hundreds of millions of views.

Commenters expressed sentiments such as “They totally deserve it for their crime” and “Hope the kids only have peace and joy in their next life.”

Chen Meilin, the children’s mother, expressed relief that the nightmare tormenting her family for over three years had finally ended.

The execution occurred on the same day as another high-profile case: the execution of Wu Xieyu, an elite university student found guilty of killing his mother in 2015 by repeatedly striking her with a dumbbell.
