Presentation Of Budget 2023 May Delay Due To IMF Negotiations -Majority Leader

Majority Leader

The 2023 Budget Statement and the Economic Policy may not be read on November 15 as scheduled.

This was revealed by the Majority Leader that the current negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) may delay the presentation.

However, as negotiations between the Finance and the Fund for a bailout continue, the deadline now appears improbable.

“The Public Financial Management Act provides that the budget should be presented to the house latest by the 15 of November. The discussions are still going on and I think it’s going to take a while. We then have to strand out conclusions and factor them into the budget.

It will be quite difficult to submit it by the 15 deadlines,” He said.

According to the Majority leader, a team from the IMF is expected in the country next week for further talks.

The Majority Leader said he will consult the Finance Minister on the possible new date to revert with the communique on whatever conclusion is reached.
