85 Students Graduate From Sekondi-Takoradi Technical Institute
The Sekondi-Takoradi Technical Institute (STTI) today, October 21, 2022, held its 4th Graduation Ceremony for students who have received training in the areas of Auto Mechanics, Welding, and Motor Vehicle Engineering amongst others.
A total of 85 students were made up of 80 boys and 5 girls.
In attendance was the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Mumin Issah, Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Evang. Prof A.K Turkson of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Mr. John K. Koomson, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman amongst other dignitaries graced the graduation ceremony.
Delivering his speech, the MCE mentioned that the government is committed to ensuring that Vocational and Technical Education become an integral part of the education system.
He disclosed the government’s intention to implement the construction of a training workshop for polytechnics, and technical universities in the areas of Automobile Engineering, Civil engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
Mr Mumin entreated people to eschew the notion that vocational education is meant for unintelligent and poor students, and implored parents to encourage their wards to pursue technical and vocational education.
For his part, Professor Turkson charged the graduating group to put their skills acquired into good use to benefit not only themselves but the society at large.
He mentioned a variety of learning materials and the inaccessibility of the facility by physically challenged persons, lack of adequate trained Personnel and lack of funds as some of the challenges facing Technical and Vocational Education.
The ceremony was on the theme: Transforming Ghana Through TVET; The Role of Stakeholder, to drum home the benefits of pursuing Technical Education in solving social problems.
At the ceremony, students were honoured with citations for their outstanding performance both in academic and practical works.
Thomas Kwabena Cudjoe, Principal of the Sekondi-Takoradi Technical Institute, however, appealed to government and other stakeholders to provide classrooms for teaching and learning as the existing ones are not adequate.
Mr Cudjoe encouraged more females to enrol on Vocational and Technical Education in a bid to reduce unemployment and over-dependence on guardians and parents.
Miss Gloria Gyamfi, an Auto Mechanical trainee was adjudged as the Best Female Student.
