Chief Of Dompim-Pepesa Clears Air On Media Reports Of Three Government Officials’ Involvement In Galamsey

The Chief of Dompim-Pepesa, Nana Ohyeawora Bian Nyonwa Panyin IV has commented on media reports that the Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, Metro Chief Executive of Tarkwa- Nsuaem and Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister Hon. Mireku Duker is involved in illegal mining in his jurisdiction.

In an interview with Spice FM, Nana Bian remarked that he was not responsible for calling out state men for being involved in galamsey.

According to the chief, one Nathaniel Dekyi in the interview with JoyNews styled himself as the Chief of the town and accused the three government officials of engaging in galamsey in his jurisdiction.

He further disclosed that Nathaniel Dekyi has sold over 40 acres of his family’s cocoa farm to illegal miners at Trabuom, where galamsey activity is ongoing.

“There’s no truth in the media reports that I mentioned the names of the Western Regional Minister, MCE Benjamin Kessie and Mireku Duker as engaged in galamsey.

The person behind this whole issue is Nathaniel Dekyi who is parading himself as Dompim-Pepesahene.

This person upon investigation has sold acres of his family lands to illegal miners after an informant informed us of their activities in the forest.

Since I was enstooled as the chief in 2018, there was nothing like galamsey in this town,” He emphasised.

According to the Chief, the Western Regional Minister before the 2020 elections, deployed security personnel to wade off illegal miners in the community.

He continued that, Nathaniel Dekyi was against the appointment of Honorable Mireku Duker because the former did not support him in his bid to become the Chief of the area.

He stressed that “Nathaniel has never been a chief and is never a chief of Dompim -Pepesa.”
