Transport Unions Meeting With Ministry Of Transport Ended Inconclusively

A consultative meeting between government and transport Unions to negotiate increment in fares ended inconclusively.

This follows a disagreement Ministry and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTUCC) after the latter proposed a 26 per cent increment in fares.

The GRTUCC says, the accumulative increment is around 26 per cent and due to a little dispute between the Council and the Ministry they had to review it.

He adds that the Ministry was not offering anything

According to the General Secretary of GRTCC, Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, the Council had to take data from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), upon consultation, and agreement by all, calculations based on data, call for the increment.

The meeting was, however, rescheduled for today, September 22, 2022, to allow the parties to reconsider their proposals with the hope to reach a consensus.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has cited an increment in fuel prices at the pumps and the cost of spare parts as reasons for its proposed increment in transport fares.
