Consumers in Sekondi-Takoradi have disclosed to Business Daily that, the purchase of frozen chicken is high because of its relative cheapness compared to live poultry chicken.
The prices for the “cold store” chicken is budget friendly for all individuals.
It was also discovered that, one can hardly get enough meat from a live chicken apart from the wings and thighs. But with a kilo of frozen chicken, they get the part they want at an affordable price.
“Frozen chicken is more affordable compared to live ones. We don’t have to go through all the hurdles in before preparing it. All this is a waste of time that’s why we prefer the cold store chickens.”
“It is affordable and enough for the family. Unlike the lives chicken, we don’t get enough meat. It’s very helpful to us the mothers because you can use it at any time.”
Poultry farming businesses in the country is liquidating due to the rise in demand for the importation of poultry products on the local market.
It has been indicated that Ghana’s poultry imports have reached 360,000 metric tonnes in 2021 from 295,196 tonnes in 2020 and 258,997 tonnes in 2019.
