Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority Predicts a 25 Per Cent Drop in Cargo Ships and Food Imports.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) is predicting between a 20 to 25 per cent drop in cargo ships berthing at the Ports this year due to the Russian -Ukraine war.

According to the GPHA cargo traffic into the country will drop especially on products such as wheat and fertilizer.

Already, there is a shortage of fertilizer which is resulting in a surge in the price of the products.

The reduction in the ships berthing at the ports
could have adverse effects on the centre and availability of food in general.

The General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Affairs of GPHA, Esther Gyebi Donkoh speaking to the media said exporters must explore other sources of imports.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Awingobit, said the high cost of doing business in the country spells difficulty for the citizens.

He said though suggestions for alternatives to imports are laudable, importers have financial constraints.
