NRSA to issue compliance Notice or Fine Stakeholders who flaunt Regulations

The National Road Safety Authority has cautioned road stakeholders who disregard road safety regulations to face full rigorous of the Law.

This power comes on the back of the National safety Act 993, where the National Road Safety is required by law to regulate institutional compliance with road safety standards .

The law also mandates the authority to serve compliance notice to authorities like the Assemblies, Urban Roads GPRTU among others to comply with standards when they flaunt regulations.

Also, any authority that is served with compliance notice by law is expected to reply National Road Safety Authority within 60days of Notice. This particular power is derived from the National safety Act 993, according to the provision, the national road safety is required by law to regulate institutional compliance for all stakeholders.

Speaking In an exclusive interview with Kwame Offei on Spice Fm, Kwame Kodua Atuahene, acting director in charge of regulation, inspection and complaince said that failure of stakeholders to comply with the standard stipulated by the Authority comes with serious consequences including payment of a fine from 10,000 to 240,000 Ghana Cedis..

“Administrative penalty are similar to fines, the penalty ranges from 10,000 cedis to 240,000 cedis depending on the severity of the infraction” he added while speaking on the sanctions”.

National Road Safety Authority continue to expand its jurisdiction and mandate after it accelerated from National Road Safety Commission to an authority.
