Youth In Western Region To Enjoy Free Training On Fish Farming

MOFA promotes catfish farming in tarpaulin ponds – AgriGold Magazine

As part of an effort to engage the youth in the agriculture sector, the Effia Kwesimintism Municipal Assembly (EKMA) is set to organize a free workshop to train young people in fish farming.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture for Effia-Kwesimintsim, Mr John Kwamina Gyimah, stated that “the innovation was to address the issue of protein, food security and income generation ventures for the teeming youth.”

According to the Municipal Director of Agriculture at EKMA, John Kwamina Gyimah the idea is to draw more young people into the agriculture sector specifically aquaculture to reduce unemployment.

He believes that fish farming is a venture where not too much capital is not needed to tap into agricultural opportunities.

Mr Gyimah said the municipality is promoting for youth people to venture into aquaculture using the tarpaulin ponds method.

He observed that catfish is a delicacy enjoyed by many in the country thus the need to invest in it.

Mr Gyimah said young people in the region are already tapping into government policy in agriculture but some areas remain unexploited.

He is, however, encouraging the youth to take advantage of the training in order their lives.

Mr Gyimah also mentioned that the Assembly looks forward to training women on how to grill and to sell the commodity on the market.

He spoke on Spice 91.9 FM Flagship program Adekyee Mu Nsem on the sidelines of promoting agriculture business to the youth as June focuses on Youth in Agriculture.
