Give More Attention To Your Female Child – Parents Advised

Parents

Parents and guardians have been admonished to dedication more time and attention to the welfare of their female wards.

This call comes on the back of a case where an 11-year-old girl was sodomised at Effiakuma, a suburb in the Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolis.

According to Madam Hawa Salifu at the Girl’s Education Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), parents and guardians fail to make time for their wards and called for more attention to be directed to children, especially the girl child.

She observed that most parents have neglected their responsibilities at home and focus more on their businesses, opining that such behaviours create an avenue for miscreants to operate.

Madam Salifu noted that “parents should look out for psychological, emotional and physical changes in their female wards”.

She again called on parents to be observant on the behaviors of their wards and encouraged them to establish a better communication between them and their children.

For her part, Madam Florence Owusu Opare said, “good parenting is not only about providing the emotional, psychological or physical needs of a child but defines good parenting as a joint responsibility for both society and family members”.

She also advised parents and caregivers to look out for paedophiles in the society and as well look out for anxiety among children.

She disclosed that such paedophiles can be family relations such as uncles, nephews and fathers.

“Look out for excessive crying , fear and anxiety in your children to ascertain what may be bothering the child,” she mentioned.

Madam Opare further mentioned poor academic performance, loss of weight and loss of appetite as common signs of anxiety in children.
