Suspect in the Effiakuma Sodomy case granted 40,000 cedis bail

A 39 year old Baba Kofi Salum, the suspect at the centre of the sodomy case  involving a 11year old girl at Effiakuma  has been granted a GHC 40,000 bail with two sureties.

The court which  was presided over by her Honour Naa Amerley Akowuah at the Kweikuma Circuit Court in Sekondi accepted an adjournment by the prosecutor, General Sergent,  Emmanuel Owusu Agyemang after failing to attach proof of the victim’s  age.

He went further to  pray to the court for an adjournment to get the victim’s weighing card to ascertain her correct age to be filed and served to the accused person for the continuation of the case.

The court granted his plea and adjourned the case to May 31,2022.

Background to Story

Baba Kofi Salum was arrested for the sodomizing a class six pupil in Effiakuma and threatening to kill her with an unknown substance in water, took advantage of her.

Madam Rebecca Kwofie, mother of the victim reported the case to the Takoradi Central Police Station.

Reports from the medical doctor confirmed that the victim has been anally carnally known by the accused Baba Kofi Salum.

According to her, the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in EKMA has been informed and is involved in the case.

Oliver Ntaadu, assistant social welfare officer from EKMA confirmed the incident and added that the Unit has been following the issue at court since its inception but was quick to add that the CLOSSAG strike action might affect their presence at subsequent sittings till the association resumes.

He went ahead to call for financial support for the victims’ mother to take care of medicals, transportation fare to Court and other miscellaneous.
