We Need Motivation as Midwives -Deputy Director of Nursing Services (ENRH)

Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Obstetric and Gynecology Unit at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH), Angela Sagoe says midwives need extensive support and motivation to function effectively in their profession.

According to her, midwives encounter numerous challenges whilst performing their duties at various hospitals and health care centers.

“We are faced with countless challenges as midwives. Sometimes, the tools and equipment to work with are not provided and that makes the job difficult. When healthcare centers are not efficiently equipped the work becomes tough,” she noted.

She was of the view that when midwives are given better conditions of services, it will go a long way to improve efficiency in delivering good healthcare to patients.

Madam Sagoe mentioned fuel allowances, availability of logistics such as vehicle amongst others as part of the motivation packages to ensure better health services.

As the Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark , International Midwives Day, Madam Sagoe recounted that midwives at the ENRH are working assiduously to curb mother – child mortality in the region.

This year’s celebration is themed, “100 years of progress”.

She reckoned that the profession is manned by skilled and trained personnel who provide better health care to mothers before, during and after delivery.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, has asked governments and Development Partners to increase investments in the education, recruitment, deployment, retention and protection of midwives as the World celebrates the International Day of Midwives today.
