W/R: Public Encouraged to Get Vaccination against Covid-19 Health

The Western Regional Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr Gifty Amugi has said, the Service is ready to vaccinate Ghanaians across the country most especially those in the region.

Addressing the media in a short ceremony, Dr Amugi mentioned that, it is urgent to intensify the nationwide vaccination to ward off the virus and sustain needed national and regional protection.

According to her, only 43.9 per cent of the eligible population have received one dose of the vaccine, whilst 23.6 per cent of the people are fully vaccinated and 3.4 per cent of the fully vaccinated persons have received a booster dose in the region.

To this end, only 56.1 per cent of the eligible populations in the region are yet to receive a first dose of the vaccine.

She mentioned the strategies employed by the Service to reach vaccination coverage. Health workers will be stationed at community health centres, workplaces, lorry stations, religious organizations and others.

Touching on the benefits of the vaccination, she maintained that it is prudent to offer to protect ourselves from current and emerging variants of the virus.

Dr Gifty Amugi further said, the National Immunization Day (NID) scheduled from April 21 to April 25 aims to vaccinate at least 13 per cent representing 149,095 of the eligible populace to get vaccinated. She added that the aged, pregnant and persons above age 15 are eligible to receive the vaccine.

She advised the public to deflate their minds off conspiracy theories surrounding the vaccine and assured that the vaccines are safe and efficacious to protect against the virus.

Again, members of the general public are reminded to go to health centres with their vaccination cards to ensure a smooth operation of the exercise, adding that complications associated with the vaccine be reported to the appropriate quarters.

She concluded by entreating all to continue adhering to the safety protocols.
